Everyone can feel lonely and isolated at times, especially if experiencing hardship.
In April 2021, in response to the devastating effects of loneliness and isolation on people's mental health and wellbeing, that the pandemic only exacerbated, TLC responded by working with our partners across the city to set up a befriending service to combat the effects of loneliness and isolation in Aberdeen.
Our service aims to place expertly trained and compassionate volunteers with individuals referred, not only to offer friendship, but also support to build their resilience, giving confidence to enter back into their community, bringing joy and life back into their experiences.
We offer a full training package on offer and regular supervision available for any issues that may arise. You will not just be left on your own, we will be with you every step of the way.
If you are interested in making a difference in the life of someone in your community in this way, please apply to become a TLC Befriender with us.
As a volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring food donations are efficiently managed. You’ll welcome and thank donors, check, weigh, and record incoming stock, and sort food by date and type. You’ll also prepare stock orders for our food bank centre and emergency food boxes, ensuring timely and accurate distribution
Are you passionate about helping others and eager to make a real impact in your community? We invite you to become a vital part of our food bank team at Old Torry Community Centre in Aberdeen, where your efforts will directly support individuals and families in need.
Our service is provided to anyone aged 18 years and over in Aberdeen who is experiencing or at risk of loneliness or isolation. Your help as a volunteer would therefore make a real difference. Our expertly trained and compassionate volunteers not only provide a lifeline to people, in the form of friendship, but also a helping hand to reconnect to the community, bringing joy and passion back into people's lives.
