Many people are unsure what to expect from counselling or therapy and may hesitate to come along. It maybe that there are life stressors or situations that you find difficult to deal with. We offer person centred counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) focuses on relationships between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It is designed to help people who are troubled by persistent negative emotions. It can help people identify their negative thoughts and also behaviours which may be keeping you in unhelpful patterns. The therapist will help you change these patterns and develop more helpful thoughts, beliefs and behaviours.
Person centred Counselling focuses on the quality of the relationship with your counsellor. They will help you understand how you interact with the world and to develop your self-awareness. The sessions are directed by you rather than the counsellor.
EMDR The mind can often heal itself naturally, in the same way as the body does. Much of this natural coping mechanism occurs during sleep, particularly during rapid eye movement (Rem) sleep. Franchie Shapiro developed Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 1987, utilising this natural process in order to successfully treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Since then, EMDR has been used effectively to treat a wide range of mental health problems.
