Four Pillars’ mission is to support the LGBT+ community in manners of Mental, Emotional, Physical & Sexual Health and offer information & support on a person to person basis to build a community that supports itself through peer education; thereby allowing individuals to make informed choices to improve their overall health & wellbeing.
Four Pillars started in 2016. The founders were involved in the LGBT+ community and were dissatisfied by the gap in services for the community across Grampian. They recognised that a lack of information, support and social activities meant that the community were drifting further apart. Individuals were becoming more isolated and this was creating barriers into education, acceptance and belonging.
The primary aim of rebuilding a community across Grampian was set out in the mission statement from day one. With this in mind, Four Pillars stands for four vital aspects of people’s well-being to keep them happy and healthy in respect of their mental, physical, emotional, sexual health & well-being.
Our Mission
Four Pillars’ mission is to support the LGBT+ community in manners of Mental, Emotional, Physical & Sexual Health and offer information & support on a person to person basis to build a community that supports itself through peer education; thereby allowing individuals to make informed choices to improve their overall health & wellbeing.
Our Aims and Values
It is Four Pillars’ belief that in order to look after a person’s health & wellbeing we must look after their mental, emotional, physical & sexual health simultaneously. For example; we understand that if a person is not in the right frame of mind to look after their basic needs (health & safety) they are less likely to look after their sexual health, increasing their chance of HIV & STI transmissions.
Work closely with the community to better educate individuals to look after their needs in relation to all aspects of their health & wellbeing by offering advice, information and barrier contraception within the LGBT hub, at specific events and by attending educational facilities and other venues.
Aim to encourage and provide opportunities for service users & volunteers to develop & grow; to do this we will always work with each person on an individual basis and refrain from judgement of personal circumstances, age, sexual orientation, race, religion or gender.
Strive to work closely with other agencies such as public and third sector agencies, encourage networking between individuals and organisations, signpost individuals based on personal requirements and provide ongoing support for individuals across Grampian.
We are looking for more amazing volunteers to join our Four Pillars team to help support the organisations daily operations. They would primarily help run our Coffee Shop and in turn support the LGBT+ Community who use this service.
