Here to help older people with modern technology.
Silver City Surfers is a small local charity which aims to help older people with modern technology within the City of Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland. We provide free tutoring and support on all forms of modern technology (e.g. laptops, iPads & other tablets, smartphones, digital cameras, etc) through mentoring and one-to-one support sessions provided by experienced volunteers.
With more and more businesses and organisations going completely digital, the need for a safe, welcoming space to learn digital skills is needed more than ever and we are here for the people who need us most.
All our sessions are drop in, so no need to book or contact us prior to visiting. Learners can attend as many or as few sessions as they wish. All our sessions are free. We cater for everyone at all levels, from those who are unsure how to switch on a computer to tech savvy grandparents who just want to add to their skills.
If you don’t have your own device, we sometimes have a one that you can try out. However it’s far better if you can bring along the device that you want to talk to us about.
We are currently looking to recruit new Trustees to join our Board so we can continue to support older people to ensure that they are not left behind by the advances in technology. You don’t need specific skills, just a willingness to help our charity continue to provide a lifeline for older people.
Silver City Surfers assist people to learn basic computer skills 1-to-1 in a social setting. We have a brilliant team of volunteers that help and are currently recruiting new volunteers.
