Instant Neighbour is a well-established charity based in Aberdeen City and Shire, marking its 40th anniversary in 2024.
While our core mission focuses on alleviating poverty and improving the quality of life for individuals and families, we are also committed to sustainability. As an active member of Circular Communities Scotland and the Scotland-wide Reuse Consortium, we work to reduce waste by promoting the reuse of household goods and furniture.
In the past year alone, we recycled 25 tonnes of textiles, books, and bric-a-brac, and reused 86.5 tonnes of furniture and household items, demonstrating our commitment to environmental sustainability alongside our social impact.
The charity provides a range of critical services, including:
We support people on low incomes to set up home, by providing access to low-cost reuse furniture, white goods, clothing and bric a brac. As well as our shops, our services include Carpetinc and Joinerinc, professional services that are accessible to everyone to use.
We offer employability experiences through volunteering in our shops, warehouse, in our vans and in our office.
Any profit made from the above go back into the organisation to support our Charitable work.
Our volunteers play a huge part in everything that we do, quite simply we couldn’t do what we do without you! Whether you have some time on your hands, have recently been made redundant or have never worked, it does not matter, we want to hear from you! We would be delighted to have you on board!
As we approach an exciting new chapter in our development, Instant Neighbour is seeking passionate and skilled individuals to join our Board of Directors. This includes recruiting a new Chair, as our current Chair is retiring after a successful 10 years of dedicated leadership at the helm.
We rely on donations of good quality, second hand furniture, textiles and bric a brac. in order for this to be sold at a reduced cost, the items need to be checked, cleaned and on some occasions built.
