ABOUT GEF

Our vision is to build brighter futures and improving the quality of life for children and their families in Kenya and north-east Scotland.

The Gathimba Edwards Foundation (GEF) was officially established in May 2014 and much has been achieved thanks to various initiatives, sponsorships and donations.

Since we began, over 650 children have been supported, 62 new homes have been built for 276 children, 3000 attendees have participated in educational seminars, 72 college or university students have graduated and over £50,000 worth of support and equipment has been delivered to children with disabilities.

GEF’s approach to tackling the challenges which hold back the communities we serve is centred around the 3 pillars of Education, Shelter and Wellbeing.  The nature of support under each pillar varies in each country according to need.

OUR MISSION THROUGH EDUCATION

KENYA - To provide children with an education by supporting primary, secondary and tertiary fees. In addition, we supply uniforms, books, shoes, stationery, access to school meals, menstrual care products for girls and accommodation costs for college and university students.

NES - To enhance access to education and learning materials for children with disabilities by providing specialised equipment, communication devices, and developmentally supportive toys.

OUR MISSION THROUGH SHELTER

KENYA - To give children and their families a safe place of shelter by building new homes or improving existing ones.

NES - To increase comfort, accessibility and enjoyment for disabled children through specialist home adaptations, modifications and equipment.

OUR MISSION THROUGH WELLBEING

KENYA - To support the wellbeing of children and their families through counselling, seminars, farming, and food programs.

NES - To support the unique needs of disabled children and their families, ease symptoms, and enable them to enjoy the outdoors by funding specialist therapies and equipment, whilst also connecting them to other relevant services.

We have exciting opportunities to join our friendly group of volunteers to support one, two or three of our Safari Series races throughout 2025. Each race requires around 30-40 volunteers at each event to run the day safely.
